The 1964–65 season was the 68th season of Scottish league football.
In one of the closest finishes ever seen in a league competition in Britain, Hearts faced Kilmarnock on the last day of the season witha 2 point lead over the Ayrshire club and a slightly better goal average. Kilmarnock had to beat Hearts by 2 goals to win the title. And this isexactly what they did, winning 2–0. This was also the first time when a club from the Old Firm did not finish among the top three.
